Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist to join our multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy based in the North East of England.

This full time (40 hours / week) position would be based at our office in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne but will require travelling to sites and other places of work around the UK.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for managing projects of various sizes throughout the pre-planning and post-planning stages, responsibilities include the completion of:

Desk Top Study (DTS) / Preliminary Risk Assessment (PRA) reports.
Coal Mining Risk Assessments (CMRA).
Ground / Site Investigations (factual & interpretative).
Supervision of ground investigation crews such as; trail pitting, window sampling, cable percussion, rotary drilling etc. Soil / rock logging to BS 5930 / EC7 as well as geotechnical / geo-environmental sampling for laboratory testing.
Ground gas and water monitoring.
Contamination Remediation Strategies & Verification / Validation reports.
Ground Gas Verification Strategies & Verification / Validation reports.
Geotechnical / geo-environmental assessments & appraisals.

Key Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant geo-sciences degree (such as Geo-technical Engineering, Geology, Geo-sciences etc.) or equivalent with demonstrated experience.
  • Experience working as a geo-technical engineer or geologist, with experience working on ground investigation and geo-technical consultancy work (small-medium sized projects).
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team of internal professionals, and with a range of external clients and consultants.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and balance multiple priorities.
  • Be driven to develop and improve your technical skills and advance your career.
  • A full UK driving licence.

  • Professional qualification / membership with a professional intuition such as; Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), The Geological Society etc.
  • SMSTS / SSSTS certificate and / or relevant CSCS card would be advantageous.
