WC Newcastle
This derelict Grade I listed Victorian underground toilet block, constructed in the 1800’s was converted into one of Newcastle’s most fashionable wine bars.
Project Overview
This derelict Grade I listed Victorian underground toilet block, constructed in the 1800’s was converted into one of Newcastle’s most fashionable wine bars, known for its great music and even better cocktails located in the centre of the Historic Bigg Market. As part of the works we had to survey the historic structure and specify repairs to the existing steel and masonry. The dome roof was assessed to take a new double glazed unit to upgrade the performance of the venue and secure the future of this iconic part of history.
Inside, the venue has a capacity of 16 people and has a dark, opulent, speakeasy vibe. They stock a carefully-curated selection of different Gins from around the world giving customers the option to try something different or attend a gin tasting experience. This bar pairs with WC’s other venture, the WC Gin Closet which is a renovation of the old Ladies’ toilet on High Bridge Street – creating the UK’s smallest Gin Bar.
