The Fleming

The Fleming is a Grade II Listed former hospital located in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Project Overview

The Fleming is a Grade II Listed former hospital located in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne. The business centre was added to Adderstone’s portfolio back in 2019 and later became its new HQ to facilitate their growing team. The historic Fleming Memorial Hospital was built in 1886, providing care for sick children across the North East of England for 101 years. We were appointed as civil and structural engineer to assist with an extensive programme of restoration, renovation and refurbishment across the estate, including improvements to the original stone façade,
repairs to original railings, fireplaces, cornice and stonework.

The work has increased lettable floor space and attracted a diverse range of successful businesses. Current occupiers include leisure, medical, and professional services and practitioners. The 31,000 sq ft building comprises six wings, including; Collingwood House, Nelson House, Anson House, Drake House, the Gatehouse and the Matron’s Lodge, set over a landscaped site with a private gated entrance and onsite parking. The previously unused Gatehouse has recently been fully renovated with a café and barbers which opened in 2021.
