Stephenson Quarter

Project Overview
The first phase of the Stephenson Quarter development project included the Crowne Plaza hotel, Rocket offices, the Boiler Shop venue, a multistorey car park and a University Technology College which created over 1,000 local jobs. The development now connects the cultural quayside area to the city centre and forms part of a wider regeneration programme involving Newcastle City Council, North East Local Enterprise Partnership, developer Silverlink, Aviva, Royal Bank of Scotland and Miller Construction. We were appointed by the principal contractor to undertake temporary works and value engineering assistance throughout the construction phase.
The scheme was completed in Summer 2018 and has gone onto receive many awards and was expected to be the catalyst for the second phase of the Stephenson Quarter development (thought to begin by 2025). The second and final phase will see the remainder of the site’s historic buildings brought back to life combined with new residential development, office space, leisure and public realm creating a vibrant quarter for the regional economy to attract residents, businesses and thousands of visitors who pour into the region every year through the adjacent Central Station.
