Pipewell Quay

Project Overview

Pipewell Quay is an office development located directly on the Gateshead Quayside on the site that was formerly the iconic Baja Beach Club nightclub. Since the developer acquired the site in 2019 the 30,000 sq ft building has undergone a full refurbishment and extension to deliver state-of-the-art Grade A office space, bespoke to the requirements of its flagship sole occupier Aspire Technology Solutions. Despite the existing structure’s heavily dilapidated condition, an adaptive re-use strategy was agreed over demolition and redevelopment.

The existing structure, where required, has had strengthening works undertaken to ensure that existing steel has adequate capacity and to limit waste from the existing reducing the carbon footprint of the redevelopment. The building now provides 3 floors of first-class, flexible office space for over 300 employees, as well as a series of breakout and social spaces and roof terraces. Extending skywards with the creation of an additional storey expressed as a feature dormer, Pipewell Quay provides architectural interest, maximises natural light and views, and maintains the heritage of the original building. Most of all, it celebrates its world-class setting and has reinstated itself as a significant Quayside landmark for years to come.
