Project Overview

The state of the art Lidl stores, which are located in Killingworth and Blyth and opened to the public in 2016 and 2017 creating around 60 jobs combined. They have been created using cutting edge design in line with the ‘Lidl of the Future’ scheme which the supermarket chain are applying to all of their new store projects. The stores includes over 120 car parking spaces including spaces for disabled users and dedicated parent and child parking areas. The new stores aim to streamline processes, maximize efficiency and reduce its environmental impact.

The buildings reduces the CO² emission rate by over 20% when compared with a building of the same type, size and use. This is circa 40 tonnes of CO² per year, which is equivalent to flying a jumbo jet over 700 miles. The fully glass fronted façade maximises natural daylight entering the buildings, whilst sensor controlled exterior sun blinds automatically operate to mitigate the effects of unwanted heat from solar gain.
