We have been commissioned to provide civil, structural an conservation engineering design for the conversion and extension of barns and farmhouse into an unforgettable wedding venue with on-site accommodation in the heart of Northumberland.
Project Overview
We have been commissioned to provide civil, structural an conservation engineering design for the conversion and extension of barns and farmhouse into an unforgettable wedding venue with on-site accommodation in the heart of Northumberland. Main challenges included the design of a multi-pitched roof structure with a 18m span valley beam and developing foundation solution in the archeologically sensitive site as well as advising on the alteration and refurbishment of the existing structures. The existing site was lying within the settings of the Hadrian’s Wall military buffer zone.
We have designed an exposed a glue-laminated timber space-frame within the roof plane the achieve the column free interiors within the constraints of the structural zones set out by the unique geometry of the proposed extension. The complexity of the space frame required careful design and setting out. In order to assist the fabrication and construction process we have modelled the extension in 3D as well provided continuous site assistance during erection.
