The project was a Newcastle University LiveBuild project for the MArch students in collaboration with the forestry commission and Kielder Art & Architecture program.

Project Overview

The project was a Newcastle University LiveBuild project for the MArch students in collaboration with the forestry commission and Kielder Art & Architecture program. We provided the structural design input to assist the students with their design and build project which aimed to create an interesting pavilion space within the wild landscape. We donated our services to help with the students development. This project was a highly commended Small Project at the IStructE Northern Counties.

Our structural design aimed to enable them to adopt a prefabricated timber frame and timber pile foundations giving a relatively simple build of low embodied carbon and strong architectural presence through the use of interesting geometry and framing the view. The project was exciting to work on not only for the quality of the finished pavilion but also the process of working with the University the Students and Kielder Art and Architecture a long term valued client.
