Heddon Banks
Heddon Banks is a one-off house in the village of Heddon-on-the-Wall, Northumberland.
Project Overview
Heddon Banks is a one-off house in the village of Heddon-on-the-Wall, Northumberland. This is a low energy, low embodied carbon new build home. We were appointed to provide geotechnical, civil and structural engineering design services working in partnership with the architect and building contractor to further develop our working knowledge and building system / details associated with gaining Passive House Certification. The building requires very little energy to heat, generating its own electricity through solar PV panels on the roof. The build was made possible through the use of a prefabricated timber frame structure to achieve industry leading criteria for embodied carbon, airtightness and energy performance.
Bedrooms are situated on the ground floor, whilst the first floor incorporates large open plan living space, kitchen and dining room with large frameless type picture windows taking in the view of the Tyne Valley. The home was designed by the architect as a response to the client, the existing village and the surrounding landscape. This home is incredibly well built from high quality materials, raising the house building standards in the region and bringing new / future skills to local tradesmen.
